2003 Dodge Durango Transmission Slip and P0700 Code After Fluid and Filter Change
I recently performed a transmission fluid and filter replacement on my 2003 Dodge Durango. I removed 7 quarts of old fluid and refilled with 7 quarts of new fluid. After driving, I noticed the vehicle is slipping in and out of gears. The check engine light has triggered a P0700 diagnostic code — which I've never seen before. No prior transmission issues existed. Could this be related to the fluid change? Any advice on troubleshooting or next steps?
It's possible there are additional fault codes present — ensure your OBD2 scanner can read all stored codes. Also, confirm you used the correct transmission fluid; some Dodge models require ATF4 specifically and not universal fluids. Always refer to the owner’s manual for proper specifications. Additionally, a faulty seal between the new filter and valve body could cause internal leaks or performance issues.
