2003 Chrysler Town & Country P0351, P0352, P0353 Error Codes - Ignition Coil Issues and Diagnosis

Model: 2003 Chrysler T&C Fault Code: P0351 Posted: 2010-06-17 10:31

I own a 2003 Chrysler Town & Country and recently experienced repeated starting problems. The engine would crank but not start, often sounding like the battery was dead—though battery voltage readings were normal. After waiting a few minutes, it would eventually start. A week ago, I tried to start it again and it failed to ignite. My friend checked several fuses, and after that, the vehicle started normally. On the way home, the check engine light illuminated, and using an OBD2 scanner, I retrieved error codes P0351, P03-52, and P0353. According to the official code reference: - P0351: Ignition Coil A Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction - P0352: Ignition Coil B Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction - P0353: Ignition Coil C Primary/Secondary Circuit Malfunction These codes indicate a fault in the primary or secondary circuits of each ignition coil. While replacing the ignition coils is a common repair, I'm seeking clarification—does this mean all three coils need to be replaced? Or could there be another underlying issue? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, Troy

The ignition coils themselves are not necessarily faulty. First, inspect the connectors and wiring harnesses leading to each coil—especially about 6 inches to one foot behind the mounting point where they often rub against metal surfaces and develop breaks or corrosion. A loose connection or damaged wire can mimic ignition coil failure and trigger these error codes without requiring full coil replacement.
