2003 Chevrolet Cavalier P0172 and P0622 Codes: Won't Start, Fuel Trim Rich, Generator Circuit Issue

Model: 2003 Chevy Cavalier Fault Code: P0172 Posted: 2006-09-27 22:06

My 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier (2.2L 4-cylinder ECOTEC engine with dual overhead cam) will crank but won't start. The onboard diagnostic system is showing two error codes: P0172 - Fuel trim system rich in Bank 1, and P0622 - Generator F terminal circuit fault. The vehicle has been inspected and we confirm it has good spark, new spark plugs (which appear dry), and fuel pressure reading approximately 90 psi. Despite these checks, the engine fails to start. I'm looking for guidance on possible root causes or diagnostic steps to resolve this issue. Any insights would be greatly appreciated — my wife is really hoping to get her car back!

Are you confirming spark presence? What condition do the spark plugs show — wet or dry? Is fuel pressure within normal range?

We've verified good spark, and the spark plugs are brand new with no signs of moisture. Fuel pressure is measured at approximately 90 psi.

90 psi fuel pressure appears high for a 2.2L ECOTEC engine — could indicate a possible fuel system issue or sensor malfunction, such as a faulty fuel pressure regulator or mass airflow sensor.
