2003 Buick Rendezvous Won't Start - B2961 Fault Code Solution

Model: 2003 Buick Rendezvous Fault Code: B2961 Posted: 2017-06-12 11:43

My 2003 Buick Rendezvous won't start unless I pour gas down the throttle body. Afterward, it runs fine for hours until I shut it off, at which point I must repeat the process to restart. This intermittent behavior has been ongoing, and I'm not getting any diagnostic trouble codes (DTCs). The vehicle only responds when fuel is manually introduced into the throttle body. I've already checked fuel pressure and confirmed it's within normal range. However, the issue persists. Any insight or troubleshooting steps for this B2961-related problem would be greatly appreciated.

Two key suggestions: 1) Scan for diagnostic codes — many auto parts stores offer free OBD-II code reading. Please share the results here. 2) Check fuel pressure using a gauge while the engine is off (KOEO). Monitor any drop in pressure over time to assess system integrity.

The only diagnostic trouble code I'm seeing is B2961. Fuel pressure readings are normal and consistent during testing.

While the engine is off (KOEO), what is the highest fuel pressure in PSI? Then, after leaving the key on, observe how much pressure drops over a 5-minute period (e.g., X psi drop). B2961 typically points to an ignition key or circuit issue — could there be an aftermarket remote starter installed? Given your symptoms and lack of codes, fuel pressure should still be evaluated. Try this: Turn the key to 'on' for 2 seconds, then release. Wait 1 second, then turn it back to 'on' and attempt to start. Let me know how it goes.

I replaced the fuel pump and now the vehicle starts reliably. Thanks so much for the help — you guys are a lifesaver!
