2002 Jeep XTerra P0328 and P0306 Error Codes After Car Wash or Rain - Water Intrusion Suspected

Model: 2002 XTerra Fault Code: P0328 Posted: 2011-06-20 08:35

I'm experiencing a strange issue with my 2002 Jeep XTerra. After passing through a car wash or exposure to heavy rain, the vehicle runs roughly and triggers error codes P0328 and P0306. I've already replaced the distributor cap, spark plugs, ignition wires, and EGR valve, but the problem persists. Could this be related to water intrusion? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

The symptoms strongly suggest a water intrusion issue. Please inspect the weatherstripping around the hood, firewall, and any other potential entry points where moisture could enter the engine compartment. Ensuring these seals are intact may resolve the problem. Good luck—please update us on your findings.

I'll check the weatherstripping tonight. Thanks for the tip—I'll report back once I've inspected the areas and tested the vehicle after addressing potential leaks.
