2002 Silverado 1500 2WD 5.3L Repeated P0332 Code at 60 MPH - Diagnosis and Fixes

Model: 2002 Silverado 1500 Fault Code: P0332 Posted: 2015-05-25 18:42

My 2002 Chevrolet Silverado 1500 2-wheel drive with a 5.3L engine has been showing up the OBD2 fault code P0332 twice, even after clearing it using a scanner. The code returns consistently when driving around 60 mph. I've read that voltage checks on the knock sensor may be necessary, but I'm unsure where to locate this sensor or how to properly test it. Recently, I drove through standing water at high speed without flooding—no visible damage. This truck has had minimal maintenance and I am the original owner. It continues to run smoothly otherwise. Any advice on diagnosing or resolving the P0332 code would be greatly appreciated.

Use an OBD2 scanner to monitor the knock sensor signal waveform for abnormal patterns. Knock sensors in this engine model (especially on early 5.3L V8s) are known to fail or produce intermittent faults, particularly after exposure to water or moisture.

This issue caught my attention because I recently encountered the P0332 code in my 2004 Tahoe after driving through deep water. I'm curious what solution you found—any updates on your fix? My Tahoe has 190,000 miles and has only had tire and brake work done since new.

I pressure washed the engine in my wife's Silverado, and now her service engine soon light is on with a P0332 code. I'd like to clear it—does anyone know how to resolve this? Was there a known TSB about engine washing or sensor contamination?

Installation issue and radio lights flickering intermittently—possibly related to electrical interference or wiring.

To resolve the P0332 code, repair the faulty knock sensor or its associated wiring. Avoid engine washing—this can introduce moisture into sensitive sensor areas and trigger false codes. Check for TSBs related to silicone sealant application near sensors. Regarding lights: Do you have a remote starter? A 'sun' sensor located in the center dash panel behind the windshield may also be causing dashboard illumination issues.
