2002 Honda CR-V EX OBDII Codes P1166 and P1167: Do These Indicate a Catalytic Converter or Oxygen Sensor Issue?
My 2002 Honda CR-V EX is showing OBDII diagnostic codes P1166 and P1167. I believe these relate to the oxygen sensors located before and after the catalytic converter. Do both codes indicate that the catalytic converter needs replacement, or are they simply pointing to a problem with the oxygen sensors themselves?
OBDII codes never explicitly state that a component needs to be replaced. Always check the actual O2 sensor data stream first. Analogy: If your car overheats, does that mean you should replace the temperature sensor? Not necessarily — it points to a system issue that may require further diagnosis.
