My friend's 2002 Honda Civic LX (1.8L, 5-speed manual, 200,000 miles) experiences engine stalling when the clutch is pressed early in the morning while driving up a small hill or around a curve. The vehicle shows fault code P030-0 indicating a random misfire. Upon inspection, brown deposits were found at the ends of the coil boots. This has led us to suspect faulty ignition components. Are there known cases of this issue on 2002 Honda Civics? Any advice or common fixes?

Have you considered exhaust valve recession into the cylinder head or fuel injector malfunction (such as improper spray patterns) as potential root causes of misfires in older Civics?
