P0455 Diagnostic and Repair Guide for 2002 Ford Taurus EVAP System Leak

Model: 2002 Ford Taurus Fault Code: P0455 Posted: 2005-05-04 13:20

I recently received a P045-2 (EVAP Emission Control System Leak - Large) code on my 2002 Ford Taurus. I've already installed a locking gas cap, but the issue persists. According to the diagnostic guide, I should inspect the entire EVAP system for leaks. Could someone clarify what components are included in the EVAP system? As someone experienced with classic vehicles like the 1975 MGB, I'm finding modern automotive systems quite complex. Thank you, Ed

Welcome Ed. The gas cap and fuel tank are key components of the EVAP system. Try replacing the current locking gas cap with the original factory-installed one and monitor if the P0455 code clears. Always ensure to clear the diagnostic trouble code after testing.

Any updates on this? I'm experiencing the same P0455 error on my 2002 Ford Taurus. I replaced the gas cap and inspected the vapor canister and fuel vapor lines, but the code continues to appear. Are there any other common EVAP system components that might be failing?

I removed the locking gas cap and installed the original factory gas cap. After this change, the P0455 error disappeared. Thanks for the tip — I'm glad it resolved my issue. Ed
