The Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency (DPFE) sensor is a common culprit for P0406 on the 2002 Ford F150. Replacing it with an OEM part from Ford often resolves the issue.

Thanks! I purchased the DPFE sensor at AutoZone for $34. After replacement and clearing the code, the check engine light has not returned during my recent drives—seems like a solid fix.
