2002 Elantra P0507 - How to Diagnose EVAP System Leak and Vacuum Line Issues

Model: 2002 Elantra Fault Code: P0507 Posted: 2014-03-22 08:42

How can I properly check the evaporative (EVAP) system and identify vacuum leaks in my 2002 Hyundai Elantra? The P0507 diagnostic trouble code indicates a possible issue with the fuel system or vacuum pressure, which may be linked to an EVAP leak. What are the most reliable steps to detect and fix such problems?

I'm confused—does P0507 point to an EVAP issue or is it a separate problem? Here's more information: https://www.obd-codes.com/p0507

Many reports suggest that an EVAP system leak is a common cause of the P0507 code. What’s the simplest way to test for such leaks? I’ve already checked the fuel neck hose and am wondering if others have experienced similar issues.

Refer to the link I shared about P0507—there are several troubleshooting tips. Start by checking for vacuum leaks and cleaning the throttle body (TB). The purge valve is located near the TB; use a search engine and look up images to identify it correctly. A vacuum leak or issue in the EVAP system can trigger the P0507 code.

I cleaned the throttle body, and the car ran significantly better right away. I used the brake cleaner method to test for vacuum leaks and discovered a leak on intake manifold #2. The issue was a loose bolt—I retorqued it. If the gasket is already worn out, tightening won’t fix it—but after fixing the bolt, the leak stopped. Now the car runs smoothly and the P0507 code hasn't returned. Thanks for the advice!
