2002 Dodge Durango OBD2 Code P0456: Causes, Fixes, and How to Clear It

Model: 2002 DURANGO Fault Code: P0456 Posted: 2006-11-23 21:37

I own a 2002 Dodge Durango with approximately 73,000 miles. Yesterday, when I started the vehicle, it displayed engine code P0456, which indicates a small leak in the evaporative emissions system. The car runs normally and there are no noticeable performance issues. I'm wondering if this code can be cleared, why it appears and persists, or whether it will resolve on its own over time. Any insights into troubleshooting or fixes would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Jeannie.

P0456 is a common code in Chrysler and Dodge vehicles, especially around the evaporative emissions system. Check the official forums for detailed troubleshooting guides related to P0456, PO442, and PO455. Many solutions are already documented there.

I don't know who you are, Jeff, and I really don’t care if we ever interact again. You're wrong to say 'you've posted enough times.' I joined this forum just yesterday, and this is my first time asking about P0456 because it appeared suddenly.

I noticed you haven't posted before—only three messages in a row on the same topic. Is that a technical error? Have you checked or replaced your gas cap recently? A loose or faulty gas cap is one of the most common causes of P0456.
