2002 Chrysler Town & Country P0601 Code: Causes, Symptoms, and PCM Replacement Solutions

Model: 2002 Chrysler Town & Country Fault Code: P0601 Posted: 2015-11-28 16:23

I own a 2002 Chrysler Town & Country that has been displaying a P060-1 diagnostic trouble code. Approximately one year ago, I was advised that the shift solenoid pack required rebuilding or replacement. My question is: can a faulty shift solenoid pack trigger the P0601 code and contribute to the shifting issues I'm experiencing? The vehicle struggles to shift properly in cold weather until it reaches operating temperature, and recently it has begun downshifting at highway speeds. Occasionally, it feels like the transmission is intermittently kicking in and out of gear while driving at or near highway speed. I've also been told that these shifting problems will worsen over time. Given the P0601 code, I'm concerned about whether this relates to a deeper issue with the Powertrain Control Module (PCM).

You're ignoring the P0601 code — it's not just a minor warning. This code typically indicates an internal failure in the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), and you may eventually see additional related codes. For more details, refer to OBD-II code P0601 at https://www.obd-codes.com/p0601.

P0601 specifically points to an internal failure of the PCM. While early symptoms might be subtle, over time you'll likely experience severe driveability issues and end up stranded without proper transmission control. Replacement at dealerships is expensive and requires programming specific to your VIN and key. I've personally resolved several cases with companies like AllComputerResources.com (based in Florida), which ship pre-programmed PCM units directly to customers. This has proven effective for many 2002 Chrysler and Dodge models — it's a common issue, and early intervention is critical.
