2002 Chrysler Intrepid Check Engine Light with P2302-P2317 Ignition Coil Secondary Codes: Diagnosis and Repair Guide

Model: 2002 Chrysler Intrepid Fault Code: P6000 Posted: 2007-05-15 03:47

My daughter recently brought home a 2002 Chrysler Intrepid with a 2.7L engine. As someone who enjoys working on older vehicles, I'm trying to diagnose the issue myself — but this one is puzzling. The check engine light is on. The car starts and idles smoothly. However, when accelerating, it performs well up to about 2700 RPM. Beyond that, it begins to miss in a rhythmic pattern and will not rev past 3200 RPM, even with full throttle. I've already checked the fuel filter (clean) and replaced the spark plugs. I'm unsure where the Schrader valve is located for fuel pressure testing. The vehicle is showing six specific OBD-II diagnostic codes: - P2302: Ignition Coil Secondary #1 Circuit - P2305: Ignition Coil Secondary #2 Circuit - P2308: Ignition Coil Secondary #3 Circuit - P2311: Ignition Coil Secondary #4 Circuit - P2314: Ignition Coil Secondary #5 Circuit - P2317: Ignition Coil Secondary #6 Circuit All codes relate to ignition coil secondary circuits. This pattern suggests a potential issue with the ignition system, possibly related to faulty coils or wiring. I'm wondering what could be causing these specific codes and how to properly diagnose and repair them. Any insights would be greatly appreciated — I’m considering switching back to my 1984 F250 diesel for now due to the complexity of modern electronics.

Check the ignition coil connectors and ensure they are securely plugged in. Look for signs of corrosion or damage. Also verify that the ignition cap is properly installed and not disconnected — a loose or faulty cap can cause misfires and trigger these secondary circuit codes.
