2002 Chevrolet Blazer P0455 OBD2 Code: Check Engine Light On, RPM Jumps at Low Speeds

Model: 2002 Chevrolet Blazer Fault Code: P0455 Posted: 2014-08-28 08:48

The check engine light has activated on my 2002 Chevrolet Blazer, and the vehicle is displaying a P0455 code. The car drives normally with no acceleration issues, but I notice that the RPMs spike noticeably when driving at lower speeds. There are no audible leaks, and all fuel hoses appear to be in good condition. A new gas cap has been tried, but the issue persists. Could this be a faulty evaporative system component or a stuck vent solenoid? Is there any specific diagnostic step I should take before replacing parts?

The P0455 code is often not caused by a gas cap. It could result from refueling with the key on or a stuck open vent solenoid. Check all evaporative system hoses for damage or blockages. However, RPM spikes are typically unrelated to this code. How long was the check engine light on before you first noticed the RPM fluctuations?

The check engine light remained on for approximately one week before I began noticing RPM jumps. A friend recently cleaned what appears to be the throttle spring (correct terminology may vary), and after resetting the system, the warning light stayed off for about a week before returning. The pattern repeats: the light stays on for roughly a week, then RPMs begin to jump. The engine runs smoothly under normal conditions—no hesitation or loss of power—but the RPMs spike until I reach around 60 mph, after which they stabilize.
