P0440 OBD2 Code in 2002 Chevrolet Camaro with 3.8L V6 - Diagnosis and Solutions
I own a 2002 Chevrolet Camaro equipped with a 3.8L V6 engine, currently at 58,000 miles. After using low-quality fuel, my gas gauge began behaving erratically, and shortly after, the OBD2 trouble code P0440 appeared. I've already run several bottles of fuel injector cleaner through the tank, which resolved the gas gauge issue. However, the P0440 code persists. I also replaced the gas cap, but that did not resolve the problem. The 2002 Camaro is known to have two purge valves: one located in the fuel tank and another at the intake manifold. My current suspicion is that either the tank-side purge valve or the charcoal canister is clogged. I'm wondering if there's a way to bypass this system, as removing the fuel tank to access these components would be extremely difficult and time-consuming. Can anyone confirm whether the P0440 code typically points to a blocked evaporative emission control system? Are there any safe or effective troubleshooting steps before considering a full system replacement?
