P0102 OBD2 Code on 2002 Chevrolet Bonneville SSEi: Diagnosis and Solutions

Model: 2002 Bonneville SSEi Fault Code: P0102 Posted: 2010-09-16 08:26

I recently received a P0102 diagnostic trouble code on my 2002 Chevrolet Bonneville SSEi. After resetting the system, the code persisted and was replaced by a P0100 (Mass Airflow Sensor Circuit Range/Performance) issue. I replaced the Mass Air Flow (MAF) sensor, but the problem remains—now with intermittent engine stalling and rough idling. Fortunately, the part store returned the original MAF sensor, which has been reinstalled. I've thoroughly inspected all vacuum lines, applied starting fluid around the throttle body and intake system, and confirmed no immediate improvements. I previously experienced one instance of hard shifting, so I replaced the Throttle Position Sensor (TPS). After several drives in the neighborhood, the vehicle runs more smoothly, though I suspect idle speed may be slightly high—this hasn't been fully verified due to limited driving time. Additionally, I've noticed antifreeze leakage near the rear intake gasket, which has been present for some time. Could this internal leak be affecting engine performance or contributing to the P0102 code? What other potential causes could lead to a P0102 code on this model? Specifically, is it possible that the Manifold Absolute Pressure (MAP) sensor is not reading accurately? Thanks for any insights or troubleshooting tips.

Have you reviewed the official OBD2 P0102 code explanation at http://www.obd-codes.com/p0102? This article covers common causes such as MAF sensor issues, vacuum leaks, and wiring faults. It may provide additional context for your situation.

I've already read that article and tried all standard troubleshooting steps—wiring checks, jiggling connections while the engine is running, inspecting all vacuum lines and fittings. The MAF sensor replacement didn't resolve the issue; at times the car runs fine, but other times it will suddenly stall or bog down significantly.
