2002 Chevrolet Avalanche Z71 ABS and Brake Light Issues: Fault Codes C0281, C0265, C0266, C0269

Model: 2002 Avalanche Z71 Fault Code: C0265 Posted: 2016-05-03 10:02

I recently purchased a used 2002 Chevrolet Avalanche Z71. While driving home, both the ABS and brake warning lights unexpectedly illuminated — not ideal timing. I replaced the front left hub assembly due to wear, but the ABS and brake lights continue to come on after just about 5 miles of driving. A diagnostic scan revealed fault codes C0281, C0265, C0267, and C0269. My mechanic suspects a faulty Electronic Brake Control Module (EBCM), which would be expensive to replace. After researching further, I suspect the issue might stem from a defective ABS sensor in the newly installed hub assembly — another case of bad luck. I've already inspected the ground connections for rust and cleaned them thoroughly. The truck has only 92,000 miles on it. Are there any other potential causes to consider if the grounding is confirmed as good?

Code C0281 appears to be a key indicator — it may point to an issue with the ABS wheel speed sensor or wiring. Also, check for RPO code JL4 (which indicates specific equipment packages) as this can affect brake and ABS system functionality. Confirming whether the vehicle has JL4 will help determine if any factory-installed components are involved in the fault.
