2001 Windstar P0303 Fault: Causes, Fixes, and Coil Pack Location Guide

Model: 2001 Windstar Fault Code: P0303 Posted: 2007-11-11 21:47

I'm seeking help with a persistent P0303 fault on my 2001 Ford Windstar. Despite recently replacing the spark plugs, spark plug wires, catalytic converter (front and rear), and oxygen sensors, the code P0303 continues to appear. I also still experience rough idle, sputtering during acceleration, and intermittent misfires. The backfiring issue has been resolved, along with loss of power and exhaust smell — but these symptoms persist. I've heard that a faulty intake gasket or DPFE (Diesel Particulate Filter Efficiency) sensor could be the root cause. If the coil pack is needed, where exactly is it located in this model? Any other components worth checking? I'm looking for accurate, step-by-step guidance to fix this issue. Thanks in advance — any help would be greatly appreciated! Jon

A leaking intake gasket and a faulty DPFE (Differential Pressure Feedback Emission) sensor are common causes of P0303 on the 2001 Windstar. Check for signs of oil or coolant leaks around the intake manifold, and ensure the DPFE sensor is properly connected and not showing resistance issues. These components often contribute to misfires and rough idle symptoms.
