2001 VW Passat P0056 and P015- O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Issue & Trip Computer Freezing

Model: 2001 VW Passat Fault Code: P0056 Posted: 2015-11-19 11:45

Hi, I own a 2001 VW Passat V6 GLS station wagon. Recently, the Check Engine Light (CEL) activated and my vehicle has returned two diagnostic codes: P0056 and P0156. At the same time, the trip computer began freezing—either flickering or resetting to zero. I initially purchased a replacement oxygen sensor for the B2S2 position, assuming it was faulty. However, after reviewing several posts on this forum, I'm now considering that the issue might not be with the O2 sensor itself. Could someone clarify whether P0056 and P0156 are related to the heater circuit of Bank 2 Sensor 2? If so, what steps should I take before replacing any components? Thank you for your guidance!

Codes P0056 and P0156 refer to the heater circuit fault on Bank 2 Sensor 2. Before replacing the oxygen sensor, it's essential to first check all fuses in the under-hood fuse box. Use a scan tool to retrieve live data from the B2S2 O2 sensor—monitoring its response and voltage readings can help determine if the issue is truly with the sensor or another component. Confirming the sensor data will provide clearer insight into the root cause. Good luck!

Could you please specify which fuse corresponds to the B2S2 oxygen sensor? I'm trying to locate the correct fuse for troubleshooting.

If I'm not mistaken, it's Fuse #29 (20-amp) that powers the Bank 2 O2 sensor circuit. However, this detail has been a while since I last worked on this model—please verify all fuses are intact before proceeding. Always check the entire fuse panel to rule out electrical issues. Good luck with your diagnosis!
