The check engine light on my 2001 Toyota Tacoma 4-cylinder came on about a month ago. I took it to a dealership friend who initially diagnosed the issue as a malfunctioning Mass Airflow (MAF) sensor and recommended cleaning it. I followed online guides, cleaned the MAF sensor thoroughly, and also replaced the air filter as suggested. However, after these steps, the check engine light returned with code P1130 — 'Air/Fuel Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 1)'. I'm now looking for a reliable solution to fix this without incurring expensive repairs. Can anyone confirm what might be causing this? Any advice on troubleshooting or potential fixes would be greatly appreciated.

I have a 2000 Toyota Tacoma with the same P1130 code. I’ve tested the voltage output from my MAF sensor using a multimeter and found it to be within normal range. Next, I’m going to trace the wiring circuit for continuity and resistance to check if there’s any fault in the electrical connections.

P1130 = Air/Fuel Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 1). The most likely cause is a faulty upstream air/fuel sensor — similar to an oxygen sensor but not directly interchangeable. Before replacing the sensor, verify that the wiring harness, connectors, and power/ground circuits are functioning properly. If needed, check fuel trim values for abnormal readings. P1130 = Air/Fuel Sensor Circuit Range/Performance (Bank 1 Sensor 1). Chances are the upstream sensor (similar to an O2 Sensor but not compatible) is shot. However, before condemning the sensor, check the circuit (wiring, connector, etc.) for power, ground, etc. If you can, check fuel trims as well. If it is the sensor, take your VIN# to the dealership for an exact replacement. Be advi$ed...they don't give 'em away. Good luck and keep us posted.
