2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT - Fault Codes P0171 and P0741: Causes and Fixes After Engine & Transmission Rebuild

Model: 2001 pontiac Grand prix GT Fault Code: P0171 Posted: 2008-06-28 20:20

My 2001 Pontiac Grand Prix GT has 140,000 miles on the odometer. The engine and transmission were recently rebuilt approximately 865 miles ago. I'm now seeing two diagnostic trouble codes: P0171 and P0741. The P0171 code appears immediately after a scan, while the P074-1 code typically returns only after driving about 50 miles. I need help identifying what these codes mean and how to properly diagnose and fix them—this is my only vehicle and I'm looking for reliable, accurate solutions.

I believe you might be referring to P0174 instead of P0741? If so, the information in the previous post could apply. However, since this is a transmission-related code (P0741), it's important to confirm that the issue is indeed with the transmission control system.

Confirmed—this is P0741, not P0174. The code indicates a problem in the transmission fluid level or pressure regulation system, and it may require further inspection of the transmission solenoid valves or hydraulic components.
