2001 Nissan Sentra 1.8L P0430 Fault: Front or Rear Catalyst Converter Issue?

Model: 2001 Nissan Sentra Fault Code: P0430 Posted: 2007-12-14 23:51

I recently received a diagnostic code P0430 on my 2001 Nissan Sentra with a 1.8L engine. The dealership has advised that the catalytic converter needs replacement. My vehicle is equipped with two converters—could this issue be related to either the front or rear converter? I've been told it's associated with Bank 1, but according to standard OBD-II coding rules, P0430 should typically refer to Bank 2. Is there a possibility of a misdiagnosis or an error in the bank assignment? Any clarification on this would be greatly appreciated.

Could you confirm that the OBD-II code read correctly as P0430?

The P0430 code has been confirmed at multiple independent scan locations and remains consistent across all readings.

If the code is indeed P0430, it points to Bank 2. Please check for any exhaust leaks upstream of the catalytic converter. Monitoring the oxygen sensor readings before replacing the converter can help validate the issue. As a last resort, ask your dealer whether the catalytic converter is still covered under warranty. Good luck and feel free to update us on your findings.

According to Maxima dealership policy, the catalytic converter is covered under warranty for up to 80,000 miles.
