2001 Hyundai XG300 P1707 Code: Causes and Fixes for High-Speed Transmission Surges
This forum is an excellent resource for car owners seeking reliable technical information. I've read far more than I've posted, but I'm currently struggling to find a solution to a recurring issue with my daughter's 2001 Hyundai XG300. When driving over 60 mph, the vehicle experiences noticeable surges and jerks in the transmission. The engine RPMs spike unexpectedly, and the Check Engine Light (CEL) activates. However, after shutting off the car and letting it rest for a few minutes, the symptoms disappear completely, and the vehicle returns to normal operation. I took the car to Advance Auto Parts to retrieve diagnostic codes, which revealed both P1707 and P0720. While I believe P0720 refers to an output speed sensor circuit malfunction in the transmission, I cannot find clear information about what exactly the P1707 code means for this model. Could someone please clarify whether P1707 is indeed related to a brake switch or another component? Additionally, if anyone has experienced the same issue with their 2001 Hyundai XG300, I would greatly appreciate any insights into effective troubleshooting steps or repair methods. Any help or guidance is sincerely appreciated. Best regards, oreo1
P0720: Output Speed Sensor Circuit Malfunction - This code indicates a problem with the transmission's output speed sensor, which can cause erratic shifting and performance issues. P1707 in Hyundai vehicles is commonly associated with the brake switch. A faulty brake switch may lead to incorrect transmission control signals, especially at high speeds, resulting in surges or jerks during operation.
