2001 Honda Odyssey P0740 Code: What Does It Mean and Can It Be Fixed Without Transmission Removal?

Model: 2001 Honda Odyssey Fault Code: P0740 Posted: 2008-02-15 21:03

I own a 2001 Honda Odyssey with a 6-cylinder engine and currently have 130,000 miles on it. Recently, the vehicle has triggered a P074-0 diagnostic trouble code. I've been told this relates to the Torque Converter Clutch (TCC), but I'm not familiar with what that component is or how it functions. Is the TCC repairable without removing the transmission? Or does this indicate the transmission is severely damaged? The car occasionally experiences strange downshift behavior, though it's not consistent and otherwise runs smoothly.
