2001 Ford F15-0 5.4L Engine Fault Code Evolution: From P0308 to P0358

Model: 2001 Ford F150 5.4L Fault Code: P0308 Posted: 2017-09-09 17:31

I initially received a diagnostic trouble code (DTC) of P0308 on my 2001 Ford F150 with a 5.4L V8 engine. I replaced all spark plugs and ignition coils as recommended. However, the issue has now shifted to P0358. This new code indicates a problem with the ignition coil or its associated wiring for cylinder #8. Where should I focus my troubleshooting next? Any guidance on diagnosing this specific fault would be greatly appreciated.

Inspect the connector on cylinder #8's ignition coil — the clips can sometimes break, leading to intermittent connections. Consider replacing the coil's pigtail wiring. Additionally, verify that there is a proper 12V power supply to the coil and that the control signal wire from the coil to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) is intact. Note: Cylinder #8 is located on the rear driver's side of the engine.

FIXED! The issue was caused by a faulty spark plug in cylinder #8, which was not properly seated or damaged internally.
