P0340 Fault Code Diagnosis and Fix for 2001 Ford F150 SuperCrew

Model: 2001 F150 Supercrew Fault Code: P0340 Posted: 2004-12-30 11:31

I'm experiencing fault code P0340 on my 2001 Ford F15-0 SuperCrew, which indicates a Camshaft Position Sensor Circuit Malfunction. I'd like to know the correct steps to diagnose and repair this issue. Does the sensor itself need replacement, or could it be a wiring problem? Any guidance on troubleshooting would be greatly appreciated.

Hi avantiblue, What engine does your truck have? I own a 2001 F150 SuperCrew with a 5.4L V8 and am experiencing the same P0340 code. It seems likely that the electrical connector to the camshaft position sensor is faulty. If you have the same engine, I can check my truck and help locate the sensor. Possible issues include a loose wiring harness or damaged wire insulation—these are common causes I've seen.

I was worried about a broken timing chain, but the vehicle ran fine until the check engine light came on during my commute home from work. The next morning, it wouldn't start at all. Based on this behavior, the issue could stem from a loose connection or a faulty ignition module—both of which can trigger P0340 and prevent engine startup.
