2001 explorer sport, 4.0L, sohc, v6/86,000miles/ 0171, 0174
Ok, i know this is like a broken record on this website, but im having problems with the 0171 and 0174 codes on my explorer. I recently had these codes, plus the 0401 pop up. I replaced the dpfe sensor and the 0401 went away, but still have the other 2. Ive read all the other post on here regarding fords and these codes. My question is i have been told that i have what is called a 2nd generation engine in my explorer, not the original designed engine that was in the earlier models. Is this something anyone else has heard of? Am i still looking for the same exhaust manifold leak or whatever? Any help is greatly appreciated and thank you in advance.
Ford has changed the way their engine gaskets are made to correct their 0171, 0174 problems, but whether or not your engine's intake gaskets are leaking or not wll have to be tested to see. Watch your fuel trims when driving and see where they are at. Maf are a big problem with fords as well. Watch the fuel trims and see if you can find the intake leak using choke cleaner. When choke cleaner hits a leak, the fuel trims will immediately react by going negative double digits or high single digits. RE read the posts and it's all been said before.
