2001 Dodge Durango P0455 and P0456 - EVAP System Leak Diagnosis and Solutions

Model: 2001 dodge durango Fault Code: P0455 Posted: 2014-09-27 17:57

I have a 2001 Dodge Durango with a 4.7L engine. The check engine light is on, and I've retrieved OBD II codes P0455 and P0456, which indicate small and large evaporative emission system leaks with no flow detected. I've already replaced the gas cap and inspected all visible hoses—everything appears to be in good condition. I'm wondering if the issue could be related to the purge solenoid. If so, what does it look like and where is it located? Any insights or recommendations would be greatly appreciated as my emissions deadline is only two weeks away. Thank you, Xtrucker

I recommend using a smoke machine to inspect the EVAP system, as it can detect leaks as small as 0.020 inches up to 0.040 inches. This method is far more reliable than visually checking hoses for cracks—otherwise, you'll likely spend a lot of time troubleshooting without finding the actual leak.
