2001 Dodge 2500 Diesel P0341 and P0216 Fault Codes: Sensor Replacement & Lift Pump Issues
I recently encountered fault codes P0341 and P0216 on my 2001 Dodge 2500 diesel truck. The camshaft position sensor was replaced on February 6, 2014, but the codes have reappeared. The original seller is providing a replacement sensor, and I plan to inspect wiring connections before replacing the sensor again—this repair has historically been extremely difficult. I've tested fuel pressure after the lift pump and recorded over 12 psi, though I did not check pressure prior to the lift pump due to potential issues with my fuel pressure gauge. Next step: replacing the fuel filter on Monday. I'm hoping it's not a failing injector pump—this component was replaced about five years ago at a cost of $1,500. An additional concern is that this truck has had its fourth lift pump installed. Cummins reportedly stated in 2002 or 2003 that 'there has never been a problem with the lift pump'—a statement I'm now questioning given the recurring issues.
I checked the voltage at the sensor connector and found 5 volts with good ground. After replacing the sensor, it only lasted four days before the same codes returned. I then purchased a new sensor from O'Reilly's; currently no issues reported as of this update.
