P0482 Fault in 2001 Cadillac DeVille Base Model - No Symptoms, Fans Function Normally

Model: 2001 Cadillac DeVille Fault Code: P0482 Posted: 2018-11-05 18:38

I'm experiencing the P0482 diagnostic trouble code on my 2001 Cadillac DeVille base model with 120,000 miles. The issue does not involve relays, fan wiring, or electrical connections. When I clear the code while driving, it remains absent as long as the vehicle is in motion. However, once I turn off the engine and restart it, the P0482 code reappears. All cooling fans operate correctly—running at low speed when the air conditioning is on and switching to high speed when engine temperature exceeds 215°F. There are no noticeable performance or comfort symptoms beyond the code itself.

Could you describe any symptoms other than the P0482 code? For example, do the fans run at low speed when A/C is on and switch to high speed when engine temperature reaches above 215°F?

No additional symptoms are present. I cleared the P0482 code and drove for two hours without it reappearing. After turning off the vehicle and restarting, the code returned immediately upon ignition. All fan operations appear normal—both low and high speed functions work as expected.

Have you monitored the Engine Coolant Temperature (ECT) sensor? The P0482 code is triggered when the Powertrain Control Module (PCM) detects a mismatch between the commanded state of the fan control and the actual circuit state. Typically, this occurs when high-speed fans fail to activate or remain on continuously. Since your fans operate correctly, the issue may lie in a PCM misinterpretation. A possible solution could be disconnecting the battery for several minutes to reset the PCM.

Have you ever identified or resolved the root cause of this P0482 issue?
