2001 BMW 325xi P0365 Code: CMP Sensor Issue After Head Replacement
Hi, I own a repair shop and am currently troubleshooting a recurring P0365 code on a 2001 BMW 325xi. We recently replaced the cylinder head, and for about three weeks, no diagnostic codes appeared. However, after that period, the vehicle started showing up with the P0365 code indicating a problem with the Cam Position (CMP) sensor. We have already replaced both the intake and exhaust CMP sensors for Bank 1 and Bank 2, but the code persists. After researching online resources, I found very limited information specifically addressing this fault code on the 2001 BMW 325xi model. This has led us to suspect deeper mechanical issues beyond sensor replacement.
If original equipment (OE) CMP sensors were installed, it's likely that the camshaft timing was not properly aligned during reassembly of the cylinder head. This misalignment can cause the P0365 code to appear even after sensor replacement.
