2001 BMW X5 OBD Code P0560: Voltage Malfunction Diagnosis & Solutions

Model: 2001 BMW X5 Fault Code: P0560 Posted: 2009-01-18 12:24

Hi everyone, I'm looking for reliable information about OBD code P0560 on my 2001 BMW X5. The code indicates a voltage malfunction in the powertrain system. While I believe this might be related to low battery voltage, I'm not certain — could it also point to a faulty catalytic converter? I recently replaced the alternator three weeks ago but only installed a new battery charger; I did not replace the battery itself. Could the issue still stem from an aging or weak battery? Any insights on how to properly diagnose this code would be greatly appreciated.

Don't worry about the catalytic converter — focus first on the battery condition. Perform a load test on the battery to confirm its health. Also inspect all battery terminals, wiring connections, and cable tightness for corrosion or looseness. Make sure the charging system is functioning correctly, including alternator output — it's possible you installed a defective alternator. A proper diagnosis starts with these checks. Good luck, and please update us on your findings.
