2000 Ford Ranger 4.0L Engine Code P0340 - No Symptoms After Replacing CPS and Synchronizer

Model: 2000 Ranger Fault Code: P0340 Posted: 2017-02-27 17:43

I'm experiencing a persistent Cam Position Sensor (CPS) fault code P0340 on my 2000 Ford Ranger with a 4.0L engine. I've already replaced both the synchronizer and the crankshaft position sensor (CPS), yet the code continues to appear. There are no noticeable symptoms such as misfiring, stalling, or rough idling. I've also tested by disconnecting the CPS connector, but the engine starts and runs normally without any changes in performance. Despite these efforts, the code persists. Could there be another underlying issue? Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated.

I'm also dealing with P0340 on my 2000 Ford Ranger and found a Ford Technical Service Bulletin (TSB) suggesting alternator-related issues as a possible cause. Check this resource: http://www.justanswer.com/ford/8pu46-fo ... po340.html It's worth reviewing, especially since the code appears without obvious symptoms. The diagnosis can be tricky — it seems like we're all grasping at straws here!
