P0401 Diagnostic and Repair for 2000 Pontiac Bonneville 3.8L Supercharged Engine
I own a 2000 Pontiac Bonneville with a 3.8L supercharged engine that consistently displays the P0401 diagnostic code. I have already replaced both the catalytic converter and the EGR tubes, switching between an aftermarket and then an original equipment manufacturer (OEM) EGR valve from the dealership. The EGR vacuum hoses are clear with no clogs or visible cracks, and inspection of the EGR valve pintle at the bottom shows free movement as expected. Despite these repairs, the P0401 code continues to appear intermittently. I am seeking expert advice on how to resolve this persistent issue. Any insights into potential underlying causes or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Thank you, Corey
Ensure all EGR passageways beneath the intake plenum are thoroughly cleaned and free of carbon buildup, as restricted flow can trigger the P0401 code even after replacing components.
