2000 Mustang 3.8L Engine Code P0453: Location and Diagnosis of Fuel Tank Pressure Sensor (FTP)

Model: 2000 Mustang 3.8L Fault Code: P0453 Posted: 2016-08-20 21:19

I own a 2000 Ford Mustang with a 3.8L engine, and my check engine light has come on, triggering the diagnostic code P0453. I'm trying to locate the Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor and understand how this issue might be resolved. The P0453 code indicates a high fuel tank pressure reading, which can stem from several factors including problems with the fuel pump, fuel tank, or wiring connections. I would like confirmation on where exactly the FTP sensor is located in my vehicle.

The Fuel Tank Pressure (FTP) sensor is typically located on top of the fuel tank. Are there any other diagnostic codes present, such as P1450? This code often appears after fuel pump or fuel tank repairs. Additionally, wiring issues at the fuel pump, fuel gauge, or rear harness could be contributing factors. For troubleshooting, perform a KOEO (Key Off, Engine Off) test and check the voltage output from the FTP sensor—normal readings should be around +4.5 volts.
