2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS with P1860 Code: Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Issue

Model: 2000 Monte Carlo SS Fault Code: P1860 Posted: 2010-06-14 16:02

I own a 2000 Chevrolet Monte Carlo SS with 64,500 miles. Recently, I had the rack and pinion replaced. About a week later, I started experiencing shifting problems. Using an OBD-II code reader, I retrieved fault code P1860, which indicates a 'Torque Converter Clutch (TCC) Solenoid' issue. After researching online, I'm wondering if others have encountered this problem and what steps were required to fix it. Could it be a faulty wire connection or a defective TCC solenoid? Any real-world solutions or repair experiences would be greatly appreciated.

There have been known issues with the 20-pin connector at the transmission (poor fit and/or loose terminals) on this model. However, in most cases, replacing the TCC solenoid is necessary. The solenoid is located inside the transmission side cover, which means the transmission will need to be removed for access during repair.
