2000 Mercury Mountaineer P0353 Ignition Coil C Fault - No Spark on Cylinder 3

Model: 2000 Mercury Mountaineer Fault Code: P0353 Posted: 2016-03-29 21:01

I own a 2000 Mercury Mountaineer with a 5.0L V8 engine, 2WD, automatic transmission. The vehicle is displaying fault code P0353, indicating an ignition coil C primary/secondary circuit malfunction. This suggests that cylinder #3 is not firing properly. My vehicle does not have Coil-On-Plug (COP) technology; instead, it uses two identical coil modules, each housing four coils mounted on the upper front of the engine. I've already replaced the ignition coil for cylinder 3 and both associated coils in the module, but the P0353 code persists. Each coil module is connected via a three-terminal plug. I'm now unsure whether to replace the entire module or investigate wiring issues further. The fault appears specific to one coil, yet the code points to a broader circuit issue. Any guidance on next steps would be greatly appreciated.

Verify continuity of the pink/white wire from the ignition coil C to the Powertrain Control Module (PCM), as an open or high-resistance connection could cause P0353 even after replacing the coil.
