2000 Mazda MPV P0174 Code: System Too Lean Bank 2 - Diagnosis and Solutions

Model: 2000 Mazda MPV Fault Code: P0174 Posted: 2009-02-09 09:26

I'm experiencing a P0174 diagnostic trouble code on my 2000 Mazda MPV, indicating that Bank 2 is running too lean. The vehicle has four oxygen (O2) sensors as shown in Mitchell's diagnostics: left front, left rear, right front, and right rear. However, Mazda documentation states that the middle and rear O2 sensors do not exist—only two sensors are present on each bank (Bank 1 and Bank 2). Given this configuration, what could be causing Bank 2 to run too lean? Are there any other potential causes beyond fuel pressure or vacuum leaks?

Start by cleaning the mass air flow (MAF) sensor, inspecting the air filter for clogs, and checking all vacuum hoses for leaks. Also verify that fuel pressure is within specifications, as low fuel pressure can cause a lean condition in Bank 2.
