2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 4.7L V8 P0732 Gear 2 Ratio Fault After Solenoid Pack Replacement

Model: 2000 JGC Fault Code: P0732 Posted: 2016-12-21 12:22

I own a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee with a 4.7L V8 engine and a 45RFE transmission. Recently, the vehicle triggered code P1784 — indicating a left/right pressure circuit stuck open. Given online advice, I decided to replace the transmission fluid and also swapped out the solenoid pack, as many sources suggest that the L/R pressure circuits are located within the solenoid assembly and require full replacement for repair. After completing the fluid change and installing the new solenoid pack (equipped with a white plug and deeper sensor plate), a new fault code appeared: P073-2, which indicates an incorrect gear ratio in 2nd gear. The P1784 code persists as well, though no other diagnostic codes are present. I replaced both the input and output speed sensors, which successfully cleared the P1784 code — but the P0732 issue remains. The vehicle now skips into 3rd gear when accelerating; first gear operates normally at low speeds, but as RPMs increase, it abruptly jumps from first to third without engaging second gear. I took the vehicle to a repair shop where mechanics have been unable to reproduce or explain this behavior. They noted that such a single-gear failure is unusual and typically occurs alongside multiple related codes. Online research suggests P0732 should always appear with other transmission-related faults, yet in my case, it appears isolated. Could the solenoid pack replacement have interfered with the gear ratio sensing or control system? Is there a possibility of sensor misalignment or wiring issues post-replacement? Any insights into how to diagnose and fix this specific P0732 issue on a 2000 Jeep Grand Cherokee 45RFE transmission would be greatly appreciated.

I noticed that after replacing the solenoid pack, the vehicle started skipping second gear. This could indicate a sensor or control issue post-installation. Have you checked for any wiring harness connections or sensor alignment problems? Also, ensure the new solenoid pack is properly seated and compatible with your 45RFE transmission model.

Thanks for the reply. I've already replaced both speed sensors and confirmed they're functioning correctly. The issue persists even after those changes. It seems like the solenoid pack replacement might have disrupted the gear ratio calibration or caused a sensor misread. I'm now considering a reflash of the transmission control module or checking for internal transmission faults. Any experience with this on 45RFE units would be helpful.
