Hello, I own a 2000 Ford Windstar with 70,000 miles. Two weeks ago, I had my intake manifold gasket replaced. Since then, the check engine light has come back on, and the diagnostic codes read P0171 and P0174. These two OBD-II trouble codes indicate lean air-fuel mixtures in both banks of the engine. While there are several potential causes, I'm looking for common issues specifically related to 2000 Ford Windstar models after intake manifold gasket work. Who performed the gasket replacement? Was the work done with proper torque specifications and the correct revised bolts and grommets as recommended for this model year?

Jeff — I had a local repair shop do the work. I’ll follow up with them to confirm whether they used the updated bolts and grommets. My mechanic ran the OBD-II scan again after the repair and said he’d need to test multiple possibilities before diagnosing the issue. Did you get any further updates on your 2000 Ford Windstar? I have a 1999 Windstar and was advised that intake manifold gaskets need replacement. If the issue persists after replacing the gasket, it might point to another underlying problem in my vehicle as well.

I own a 1997 Ford Windstar with the check engine light on. I went to Auto Zone for a free scan and received codes P0171 and P0174. Before replacing oxygen sensors, I checked for vacuum leaks and found a deteriorated vacuum hose near the rear of the engine. Replacing it cost only $1.00. After clearing the code by disconnecting the battery for 15 minutes, the light went off and the vehicle runs smoothly now. I guess I was just lucky this time! — Frank
