2000 Ford E150 4.2L Repeated OBD2 Code P0340 and P1349 - Head Gasket Leak & Sensor Issues

Model: 2000 Ford E150 Fault Code: P0340 Posted: 2006-08-23 23:12

I've been consistently receiving OBD2 fault codes P0340 (Cam Position Sensor Bank One Malfunction) and P1349 (Misfire Detection), despite replacing both the crankshaft and camshaft position sensors approximately eight months ago. I also suspect an internal head gasket leak, as I've noticed antifreeze loss from the engine. The issue persists even after sensor replacements. I'm looking for reliable advice on diagnosing or resolving the P0340 code, especially considering potential mechanical wear or sensor installation problems. Any insights or troubleshooting steps would be greatly appreciated. Best regards, B McElvaine

Could you please specify the brand of the camshaft position sensor you installed? This might help determine if compatibility or quality is a factor.

When you replaced the camshaft position sensor, did you notice any metal shavings or debris in the synchronizer gear? The synchronizer is the component it bolts to—visible damage could indicate internal wear or mechanical failure.
