2000 Ford Focus 2.0L DOHC Misfire Issue: P0302 & P0303 Codes Explained

Model: 2000 Focus 2.0L DOHC Fault Code: P0302 Posted: 2006-09-03 09:09

My 2000 Ford Focus 2.0L DOHC engine frequently misfires when accelerating quickly, but runs smoothly with gradual acceleration. After a recent tune-up that reduced some vibrations, the issue persists. The check engine light is on with codes P0302 and P0303 indicating misfire on cylinders 2 and 3. I'm wondering if this could be caused by faulty fuel injectors or a bad spark plug coil. Any insights from owners of similar models?

What brand of spark plugs and ignition wires did you use during the tune-up? How many miles has the vehicle accumulated? Were both spark plugs and ignition wires replaced during the service?

Used Motorcraft Copper spark plugs, vehicle has 65,000 miles. Both spark plugs were replaced, and this misfire issue started about three weeks ago.

Check for vacuum leaks in the PCV valve and associated hose—this is a common cause of misfires, especially under high load conditions on 2.0L DOHC engines like the 2000 Ford Focus.
