PO442 DTC on 2000 Dodge Stratus: How to Fix Evaporative Emission System Leak

Model: 2000 Dodge Stratus Fault Code: P0442 Posted: 2011-10-21 13:44

I recently started receiving a PO442 diagnostic trouble code on my 2000 Dodge Stratus. I've already replaced the gas cap, but the code returns immediately after. The issue appears to be related to the evaporative emission (EVAP) system, where a small leak is detected. Despite replacing the cap, the problem persists. What steps should I take next to resolve this? Any advice for diagnosing or fixing the EVAP system on this model?

PO442 indicates an Evaporative Emission (EVAP) System with a detected small leak. This is typically caused by a faulty seal, cracked hose, or loose connections in the EVAP system.

Inspect the EVAP hoses connecting from the green service cap to the fuel tank for cracks, wear, or disconnections. These components are common sources of leaks on a 2000 Dodge Stratus.

If u find no leaks visually get it in to a dealer or competent shop and have it smoke checked!
