I own a 2000 Dodge Stratus 2.5L and recently experienced a complete engine failure while driving on the highway. The vehicle would not restart after shutting off. A diagnostic scan revealed fault code P0340, indicating a camshaft position sensor malfunction. I replaced the camshaft position sensor, which was integrated into the distributor—this repair also included replacing the distributor itself. Despite this, the engine still will not start; it turns over but fails to ignite. The P0340 code persists after both replacements. I'm seeking advice on potential underlying causes and troubleshooting steps for this persistent issue.

Could the timing belt be broken or disconnected, preventing proper rotation of the distributor or camshaft? Has the timing been verified to remain correct after any recent work? Where were the replacement parts sourced from? Specifically, what brands of crankshaft and camshaft position sensors were installed?

I haven't yet inspected the timing belt. The parts were purchased from AutoZone: Duralast crankshaft sensor and Cardone Redman distributor.
