2000 Dodge Durango Engine Code P0500 and P0460: Speedometer & Odometer Fail, What Do These Codes Mean?
My 2000 Dodge Durango with a 4.7L engine has over 301,000 miles. Recently, both the speedometer and odometer stopped working suddenly. All other gauges function normally, and the engine runs fine. The dashboard displays fault codes P0500 and P0463. What do these codes mean? Are they serious? Any guidance on diagnosis or repair would be greatly appreciated.
Have you had any recent repairs or mechanical work done? P0463 relates to the fuel level sensor high voltage issue — if you have a digital multimeter (DVOM) and access to the wiring diagram, checking the sensor circuit could help. P0500 indicates no signal from the vehicle speed sensor. The system uses the rear wheel speed sensor mounted on the rear axle to measure vehicle speed and distance traveled.
