P0141 O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction - 2000 Dodge Durango V8 4.7L

Model: 2000 Dodge Durango Fault Code: P0141 Posted: 2005-08-30 20:37

Hi everyone, I own a 2000 Dodge Durango with a 4.7L V8 engine, currently at 86,000 miles. About four days ago, the Check Engine Light activated. Unfortunately, I was planning a backpacking trip and drove approximately 850 miles with the light on — during this time, there were no noticeable performance issues or warning symptoms. After returning, I checked online and discovered that the illuminated light corresponds to an OBD-II diagnostic code. Using the ignition key method (on/off/on/off/back-on), I successfully retrieved the code: P0141 — which is defined as 'O2 Sensor Heater Circuit Malfunction (Bank 1 Sensor 2)'. I'm looking for clarification on what this error means and how to properly diagnose and fix it. Does anyone have experience with this specific fault in a 2000 Dodge Durango? Any advice or recommendations would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!

Based on the P0140 code, you likely need to replace the downstream oxygen sensor on Bank 1 Sensor 2. This is a common issue in older Dodge Durangos with V8 engines and can cause the heater circuit malfunction detected by OBD-II.
