P0725 Fault Diagnosis and Repair for 2000 Dodge Dakota - Engine Speed Input Circuit Malfunction

Model: 2000 Dodge Dakota Fault Code: P0725 Posted: 2007-01-20 10:34

I'm experiencing a P0725 engine speed input circuit malfunction in my 2000 Dodge Dakota. Can anyone provide insight into what this code means and how to diagnose or fix it? The issue seems related to the vehicle's transmission speed sensing system, which may affect gear shifting and overall performance.

Is your speedometer functioning properly? A non-responsive speedometer can be a sign of a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) or related circuit issues.

The speedometer needle only moves when I reach about 15 mph, which suggests the VSS might not be sending accurate signals to the instrument cluster.

Could this be a Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) failure or an electrical circuit issue in the speed sensing system?

Is the Vehicle Speed Sensor located on the transmission or on the rear axle differential? This affects how we troubleshoot the P0725 code.

It depends—try unplugging the VSS located at the differential and see if the fault clears or if a new code appears. If it's the transmission sensor, you might only get an ABS warning. However, I believe there should be a VSS on the transmission as well. For accurate diagnosis, consider contacting your dealer and having them run a VIN check to verify sensor locations and wiring diagrams.
