2000 Dodge Caravan P0743 Code: Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Issue and Gear Indicator Problems
Hi everyone, I'm looking for help with a recurring issue on my 2000 Dodge Caravan. My van was running perfectly until suddenly it started revving uncontrollably, followed by all gear indicators (P, N, D, 3, etc.) lighting up in squares. The check engine light also came on. After about 15 minutes, the vehicle returned to normal operation and the check engine light turned off. However, recently, the issue has persisted — the gear lights remain lit and my speedometer stopped working entirely. We initially suspected a faulty Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) and replaced both sensors, but the problem hasn or been resolved. Today, I had a diagnostic scan performed, which returned code P0743: 'Torque Converter Clutch Solenoid Circuit - Open or Shorted Solenoid' (electrical). I've searched extensively online, and most sources indicate that this fault should cause the vehicle to stall. However, my 2000 Dodge Caravan has never stalled under any conditions — it drives smoothly at all times. Given this discrepancy, I'm wondering if P0743 is actually unrelated or if there's another underlying issue. Has anyone else experienced a similar situation with a 2000 Dodge Caravan where the vehicle doesn't stall despite having this code? Any insights or troubleshooting tips would be greatly appreciated.
