P0441 and P0446 Diagnostic Issues on 1999 Toyota Corolla LE - Repair Cost vs DIY Solution

Model: 1999 Toyota Corolla Fault Code: P0441 Posted: 2006-09-14 14:27

I'm experiencing both diagnostic trouble codes P0441 and P0446 on my 1999 Toyota Corolla LE. The dealership has quoted a repair cost of $400, which I'm concerned about. I'd like to understand what exactly these codes indicate and whether the issue can be resolved through a DIY fix without paying a high fee. Can anyone confirm if this is related to the EVAP system or another component?

Can you clarify what specific part the dealer is recommending replacement for? Is it just the EVAP canister, or are there additional components involved?

I have the same P0441 and P0476 codes on my 1999 Toyota Corolla. I took it to a dealership where they advised replacing both the EVAP canister and its associated valves, quoting $525—this seems extremely high. I'm now considering taking it to a local mechanic who claims expertise in transmission repairs. Does anyone have experience with EVAP system fixes on this model?

A transmission specialist might not be the best person for diagnosing an EVAP-related DTC like P0441 or P0446. Perhaps it's worth checking the A/C system during inspection, as leaks or pressure issues could indirectly affect emissions readings.
